An air ambulance and mountain rescuers from the detachment in Bansko helped a tourist who was at risk of falling off a cliff, the Mountain Rescue Service reported service (PSS) of the Bulgarian Red Cross.
Shortly after 12:00 on Sunday at the Bansko base, a report was made of a tourist who had fallen and was stuck in a steep rock section, unable to continue down or climb up, holding his hands and in danger after any unmeasured movement to fall off the cliff. He was observed by another tourist from the group he was traveling with, and communication with the Unified Emergency Call Number 112 and the Center for Emergency Medical Assistance by Air (CEMSA) was conducted through him, according to the PSS.
After the connection was established, a decision was made by the CSMPV to raise a helicopter in view of the extremely complicated situation and the high risk for the victim. The coordination center and the machine crew assess the situation, the distance and the weather conditions and the helicopter takes off at 12:50 from Vrazhebna Airport.
At 1:20 p.m., it landed at a pre-determined landing site, from where it picked up three rescuers with the relevant rescue equipment, then dropped them at the foot of Mount Jangal, as the peak was obscured by clouds and weather conditions prevented a closer landing. It then makes another course for three more rescuers to the same location. Due to the dynamic change in the weather, after the second flight the machine returned to Sofia, and the rescuers from Bansko began the technical operation to reach, secure and extract the victim to a safe place and transport him to the Bansko base, according to the PSS.
At 15:25 the victim was reached, secured and taken out of the difficult situation. He was then accompanied by the rescuers along a mountain path to the valley of the Demyanitsa River, from where he was transported by car to the Bansko base.
