Jamaican reggae singer and musician Jimmy Cliff (real name James Chambers) has died at the age of 81.
The news of the musician's death was announced by his wife.
“My husband, Jimmy Cliff, has died after a seizure that turned into pneumonia“, she wrote on Facebook.
The local newspaper The Jamaica Observer recalls that Cliff contributed to the rise in the popularity of reggae worldwide after the release of the film The Harder They Come (1972), in which he played the lead role.
His songs topped the charts, and his album Wonderful World, Beautiful People (1969) became a global hit.
