Legendary actor George Wendt, known for his role as Norm Peterson on the hit series "Cheers", has died at the age of 76, dariknews.bg reported.

Wendt, who played his beloved character on the NBC show from 1982 to 1993, received six consecutive Emmy Award nominations for the role.

Wendt's death on Tuesday was confirmed by his publicist in a statement that read: "George was a devoted family man, a beloved friend and confidant to all who were fortunate enough to know him."

The series wins 28 Emmy Awards from 117 nominations, having been nominated for "Outstanding Comedy Series" in all 11 seasons, winning four.
