The tax administration in Užice (Western Serbia) has banned the operation of Emir Kusturica's restaurant in the ethnic village of Drvengrad, BTA reported.
The ban comes into effect today and was imposed "due to established irregularities in its work," the tax administration's decision says.
The world-famous film director Emir Kusturica, born in Sarajevo, commented on the ban with the following words:
“This is an award from Aleksandar Vučić and Sinisa Mali for the best village in the world, at least by UNESCO standards“.
Kusturica built Drvengrad in 2004. specifically for the filming of his film “Life is a Miracle“, recreating the typical Serbian way of life. The village is located near Užice, in a mountainous area on the border with Bosnia and Montenegro, and is visited by many tourists.
Recently, the director has openly expressed his support for anti-government protests in Serbia, including in Užice, where in July the highway was repeatedly blocked with a demand to call early parliamentary elections.
