The American company SpaceX plans to carry out the first unmanned landing of the Starship spacecraft on the Moon in March 2027, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing its sources.
Achieving this goal will be a challenge for SpaceX and will require frequent test launches of the Starship spacecraft. According to the publication, the space company has decided to focus on its lunar program in cooperation with NASA and therefore temporarily abandoned its ambitions to send a spacecraft to Mars.
According to the initial plans of SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, Starship was supposed to travel to Mars in unmanned mode in 2026 to test the safety of landing on the planet. The plan was then to begin work on manned missions to Mars and eventually create a self-sufficient city there.
