Today marks the World Environment Day, BNR reported.
There will be a number of events across the country aimed at raising awareness and taking action on environmental issues.
The theme this year is "Our land, our future, we are the recovery generation" with a focus on combating desertification and land degradation, which affects over 3 billion people, and strengthening drought resilience.
According to UN forecasts, by 2050 over three quarters of the world's population will be affected by droughts. By 2030, drought, land degradation and desertification could force 135 million people to migrate.
