Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, makes her long-awaited first public appearance for the year of the traditional Trooping the Color military parade on the occasion of King Charles III's birthday, BNR reported.
The princess, who is currently being treated for cancer, was seen smiling and waving from the balcony of Buckingham Palace at the end of the pomp and pageantry ceremony. The king, who is also being treated for cancer, this time traveled by carriage rather than on horseback.
However, Prince William, Princess Anne and Prince Edward followed tradition by riding horses in military uniform. Thousands of fans of the monarchy waited in the pouring rain for one of the biggest events in the royal calendar. There were rapturous cheers from the crowd as they got their first glimpse of Kate and Charles as they made their way from Buckingham Palace to the Horse Guards Parade. The carriage procession was greeted by a sea of cellphones from people trying to snap a photo of the royals through the windows.
The ceremony marks the monarch's official birthday and has been held for more than 260 years. It was Kate's first public appearance since Christmas. In March, she revealed that she was undergoing chemotherapy for cancer.
