The Taliban in Afghanistan ban women's voices and their faces in public places with new laws approved by the supreme leader to fight vice and promote virtue, the Associated Press reported, quoted by dariknews.bg.

The laws came into effect on Wednesday after being approved by Supreme Leader Hibatullah Akhundzada, a Taliban government spokesman said. After seizing power in 2021, the Taliban created a ministry to “promote virtues and prevent vices”.

The ministry published its laws of vices and virtues, which covered aspects of daily life such as public transport, music, shaving and celebrations.

The laws empower the ministry to directly regulate the personal conduct of citizens by imposing penalties such as warnings or arrest in case of violation of the laws.
