Rumen Radev ended his nine-year presence on “Dondukov“ 2 and took the step that had been talked about for months – he entered active politics. His resignation is not surprising, but it is significant. It comes at a time of strong public tension, mass protests and accumulated energy for change that is seeking its political expression.

The president clearly outlined his enemies – the mafia, the oligarchs in power and corrupt officials, including those who are already magnetically sanctioned by Western countries. This is a direct clash with the status quo and an unambiguous signal that his future political project will position itself as anti-system and protest. Radev is not just talking about participating in elections, but about a battle – moral, institutional and political.

A highly personal moment in his speech was his gratitude to his wife for her support during the two presidential terms. This gesture added a human dimension to the political act and emphasized the cost of a long stay in power.

Nine years later, Radev is leaving the role of arbiter and entering the role of a player.

The protests became a catalyst. They gave confidence that there was a public mass ready to follow a new party or movement. It is this energy that the president is trying to channel before it dissipates or is captured by other formations.

The historic moment is also institutional. For the first time, a woman becomes president of Bulgaria - Iliana Yotova takes office as head of state and will appoint a caretaker cabinet.

This opens a new page not only in politics, but also in the symbolism of power.

Iotova's role will be key - she must guarantee stability in a transitional and extremely tense period.

However, Radev faces difficult questions. Who will he go with, what kind of party will he create, which individuals will represent him and whether the anti-corruption charge will become a working program.

The battle with the mafia sounds strong, but it requires structure, allies and a clear vision.

One thing is certain - Rumen Radev is no longer a president above politics. He is part of it. And this move rearranges the entire political field.
