Two national swimming records fell in Burgas on the first day

Hristo Petkov from the Plovdiv Swimming Club 2019 improved the national record in the 400-meter individual medley on the first day of the international tournament "Mayor's Cup - Burgas Grand Prix", which is taking place at "Arena Park" in the seaside city. Petkov's time is 4:42.61 minutes and with it he ranked 3rd in the final series, being overtaken by Vlad Stancu from Steaua (Bucharest, Romania), whose result is 4:28.02 minutes. Second place went to Ukrainian Ivan Grabko, who is also competing for Plovdiv 2019 and has a result of 4:31.49 minutes, BTA reports.

Among the women, a new national record in the 50-meter breaststroke was set by Teya Nikolova from Cherno more (Varna). She stopped the clocks at 30.73 seconds and also guaranteed herself a place in Singapore 2025. Until now, the national record was hers again – on June 22, 2024 in Belgrade, when he crossed the finish line in 30.91 seconds.
The competition is a qualification for the World Championships in Singapore 2025.

The official start of the competition, which is organized by the Municipality of Burgas and the Bulgarian Swimming Federation, was given by Mayor Dimitar Nikolov and the President of the Bulgarian Swimming Federation Georgi Avramchev.

Over 500 swimmers from different countries will participate in the "Mayor's Cup - Grand Prix Burgas 2025" this year. The competitors of Olympia (Sofia), as well as those of Sport Club Elit (Bucharest), performed excellently on the first day. It was the Romanians who took the 4x50 meter freestyle relay for men with a time of 1:33.26 minutes. Among women, Olympia is first with a time of 1:49.74 minutes.
