Canadian Penny Oleksiak will miss the swimming world championships because she is being investigated for an alleged anti-doping code violation. The rule is about the “declaration of whereabouts“, reports "Reuters"
Elite athletes are required to inform doping authorities of their whereabouts at all times so that extraordinary tests can be conducted. Former Olympic 100m freestyle champion Oleksiak announced her withdrawal from the championships in a post on social media, stressing that the issue was not related to banned substances.
"I wanted to confirm that I am involved in a case with the World Aquatics Association, which is still in the preliminary stages. I want to emphasize that this case does not involve a banned substance. It is about whether I have updated my information correctly. Out of respect for the Canadian Federation, my colleagues and clean sport, I have decided not to compete at the World Championships. "I am and have always been a clean athlete and I will not be making any further comments at this time," added Penny Oleksiak.
The Canadian National Olympic Committee also issued a statement supporting Oleksiak's decision, saying she made an "administrative error."
The men's and women's world swimming championships will be held in Singapore from July 27 to August 3.
