Two world records were broken during the Diamond League in Eugene, BTA reports. Kenyans Faith Kipiegon (pictured) and Beatrice Chebet simply showed their class.

Chebet "broke" the world record for women in the 5000 meters, and her compatriot Faith Kipiegon again improved her own personal best in the 1500 meters.
Olympic champion Chebet ran the 5000-meter distance in 13:58.06 minutes to improve the time set by Gudaf Tsegai by more than two seconds. The Ethiopian's time of 14:00.21 was broken when the Kenyan overtook Tsegay with 200 meters remaining as she sprinted towards the finish line. Chebet looked shocked when she saw the result, adding to her 10,000m world record set in Eugene last year, but she had held the record since she clocked 14:03.69 in Rome last month.

Faith Kipiegon clocked 3:48.68, bettering her previous 1500m world record of 3:49.04 set in Paris last July. Kipiegon, a three-time Olympic champion in the event, recently failed in her bid to become the first woman to run a mile in under four minutes.

Olympic champion and world record holder in the pole vault Armand Duplantis (Sweden) failed to "break" his own personal best for the 13th time. Duplantis, who set his best jump of 6.28 meters in Stockholm, Sweden, in June, had little competition, with no one left in the sector after 5.90 meters, and after clearing six meters, he tried 6.29, but failed on all three attempts.

The men's 100 meters was dominated by Olympic silver medalist Kishane Thompson of Jamaica, who won in 9.85 seconds, one-tenth of a second off his personal best set eight days ago. Second place went to Britain's Jarnell Hughes.

The next round of the Diamond League is scheduled for July 11 in Monaco.
