Heavy rain halted Formula 3 at “Silverstone“, the seventh round of the season, reports BTA. Nikola Tsolov (Campos Racing), who started from first position, remained in 20th place, which he occupied when the race was interrupted after the 14th lap. The race was initially stopped with a red flag in anticipation of the rain decreasing and the track drying out. Due to forecasts of increasing precipitation and the progress of the weather, it was finally stopped.
Tsolov was overtaken soon after the start due to the decision to start with slicks in the rainy weather in the hope that the track would dry out, while some drivers preferred wet tires and in the opening laps the Bulgarian fell behind to 15th place.
Instead of decreasing, the rain intensified, there was a crash, and this led to the entry of a safety car on the 11th lap. Shortly before that, Nikola Tsolov was called from the pits to change tires, he wanted to wait another lap, but in the end he changed his tires. However, the surface became so slippery that the drivers could barely stay on the track, and the race was subsequently stopped.
The winner was Tsolov's teammate Mari Boya with a final result of 26:01.642 minutes. The Bulgarian's time was 2:24.118 minutes slower than that of the Spaniard. For the first time this season, he failed to score points from a racing weekend (sprint and main race).
The Italian Nicola Lacorte (DAMS Lucas Oil) qualified second at "Silverstone", and the third place was completed by Touka Taponen (ART Grand Prix) from Finland.
The next round of Formula 3 is at the end of July in Belgium, and there are a total of three race weekends until the end of the season.
