Mercedes-AMG GT XX: The electric car that circumnavigated the globe in a week

Mercedes-AMG made a bold and impressive demonstration of the capabilities of its new electric technology

Instead of just showing numbers and statistics, the company told a story of endurance by sending its electric sedan Mercedes-AMG GT XX on a marathon test at the Nardo track in Italy. The car covered a distance equal to the circumference of the globe - 40,075 km.

To achieve this impressive result, the GT XX with its 1,360 hp three-motor powertrain spent 7 days, 13 hours and 24 minutes on the move, stopping only for a short recharge. The car's average speed was a remarkable 220 km/h, which includes the idle time. This shows that the electric sedan is able to maintain a pace that is typical of sports cars.

To maintain such a high pace, Mercedes-AMG uses two key, but not yet widespread, technologies. The first is ultra-fast charging with a capacity of 850 kW, which minimizes recharging time. The second is direct battery cooling, which allows the battery to maintain stable performance without overheating, even under extreme load.

The Mercedes-AMG GT XX is expected to be launched next year as the new flagship of the AMG line. Although the production model may not have all the "space" characteristics used in the test, the demonstration is a clear message. It shows that the era of electric sedans that combine long range, high speed and reliability is already here. Mercedes is not just chasing numbers, it is setting the pace that competitors will have to comply with.
