EU postpones new sanctions package against Russia

Instead, Brussels turns its attention to the energy dependence of Hungary and Slovakia

The European Commission (EC) will not present the expected new sanctions package against Russia on September 17. The announcement of the 19th package of restrictions has been postponed indefinitely, Politico reports, citing a European diplomat and a representative of an EU country, BTA reports.

According to the publication, the official presentation is no longer "expected on Wednesday", and the EC did not specify new possible deadlines.

According to Politico, the delay is related to the redirection of the EU's attention, instead of on new sanctions, Brussels is focusing on putting pressure on Slovakia and Hungary to reduce their dependence on Russian oil.
