Albania is seeking opportunities to participate in the EU defense production incentive program, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama announced today during a visit to NATO headquarters in Brussels for a meeting with the pact's Secretary General Mark Rutte, BTA reports.

“I expect to discuss these opportunities“, Rama said. According to him, Albania is moving towards revitalizing its military industry. Rama said that his country is training Ukrainian military and would like to do more for the alliance's activities.

Rutte pointed out that Albania is participating in the multinational forces deployed in Bulgaria, Latvia and Kosovo. Albania is providing significant assistance to Ukraine by training technicians and pilots for the armed forces, he noted.

The European Commission's EU Defence Readiness Programme finances the purchase of ammunition, artillery systems, infantry support, drones, as well as infrastructure protection, communications and the development of dual-use infrastructure. The EU is also expected to cover the costs of acquiring submarines, transport aircraft, aerial refueling systems, artificial intelligence and electronic warfare.
