Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for the assistance provided by Qatar in returning Ukrainian children kidnapped by Russia, Ukrinform reported, BTA reports.

“We appreciate this solidarity and genuine concern for our children“, Zelensky stressed in a post on “Telegram“ after a telephone conversation with Al Thani.

The Ukrainian president invited Qatar to participate in a high-level meeting organized jointly with Canada in New York within the framework of the annual session of the UN General Assembly this month.

“The meeting will focus on this important topic - our children and our efforts to return them. "It is important for us that Qatar is represented," Zelensky said.

He also thanked Doha for its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, assuring the emir of Kiev's reciprocal support for Qatar.

Zelensky and Al Thani also discussed the program of the annual session of the UN General Assembly and agreed to maintain contact.

According to data from August 23, a total of 83 Ukrainian children were returned to Ukraine with the assistance of Qatar, Ukrinform notes.
