Brussels International Airport Cancels or Reroutes 44 Flights

External Service Provider Affected, Authorities Say

Brussels International Airport has canceled or redirected 44 of its 257 scheduled flights due to a cyberattack, the airport's authorities said.

According to authorities, the cyberattack, which affected an external service provider, led to the cancellation of 38 flights and the redirection of six more.

The airport announced its decision to cancel half of its departing flights on Sunday due to the cyberattack, the consequences of which have not yet been resolved. Problems with passenger check-in are expected to continue on Monday. Due to the situation, all airport staff have been reassigned to manual check-in and boarding procedures.

The cyberattack on passenger check-in and boarding systems took place overnight between Friday and Saturday. It affected an external service provider, but the airport's own systems remained unaffected.

Hackers also attacked two other European airports - London Heathrow and Berlin. This also led to delays and cancellations of flights. The attack was targeted at Collins Aerospace, which supplies check-in and boarding systems to several airlines. The hackers' actions disrupted the operation of automated systems.

Earlier, a terminal at Dublin Airport was evacuated after luggage was checked through a security scanner.
