The Israeli delegation will not participate in the UN Security Council meeting scheduled for September 23 to discuss the situation in the Gaza Strip, said Israel's permanent representative to the UN Danny Danon.
He cited the reason that the Israelis celebrate Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year) on that day, calling the decision to schedule the Security Council meeting on that date “hypocrisy“ towards the Israeli representatives.
“I reiterated to the President of the Security Council that Israel will not participate in tomorrow's Security Council meeting. "Despite our prior notification that the meeting would fall on Rosh Hashanah, the Council decided to hold the debate on that date," he wrote in X, accompanying the publication with a copy of his official letter sent to the current President of the UN Security Council, Kim Sang-jin.
“The one-sided discussion held on a Jewish holiday is yet another proof of the UN's hypocrisy,“ said Danon.
