According to the non-governmental organization "Greenpeace", Russian oil tankers from the so-called shadow fleet are posing a growing environmental threat along the Baltic coast of Germany, DPA reported.

The organization indicated that since mid-June, 188 tankers carrying crude oil from the Russian ports of Primorsk and Ust-Luga have passed by the coast of Germany. Of these, 123 are included in international sanctions lists, and 27 are so-called "ghost tankers", which are not registered anywhere and travel under a false flag. A total of 70 of these vessels are 20 years old or older and "are no longer suitable for the safe transport of crude oil," Greenpeace added.

Marine biologist Thilo Maack, who works for the NGO, said the German coast must be protected from the environmental risks posed by these oil tankers. – Greenpeace– called on the foreign and interior ministers - Johan Vaddeful and Alexander Dobrindt - to take action.
