French Prime Minister to begin two days of talks with representatives of various parties on Tuesday to find a way out of the political crisis, a day after shocking France with his decision to step down, Reuters reported, BTA reported.

Lecornu resigned yesterday, along with his government, after the cabinet he presented on Sunday night was rejected by both his allies and opponents. It is the shortest-lived cabinet in modern French history.

French President Emmanuel Macron yesterday tasked Lecornu with holding talks, giving him a deadline of tomorrow night. Politicians from across the political spectrum have expressed bewilderment at the president's actions, suggesting that he is likely trying to buy time.

It is currently unclear exactly what Le Corneille's responsibilities will be during the discussions. "Like many French people, I no longer understand the president's decisions," said centrist Gabriel Attal, who was also Macron's prime minister.

The current political crisis, the deepest since the creation of the Fifth Republic in 1958, began in June last year. After the far-right came first in the European Parliament elections, Macron called early elections for the lower house of the French parliament. The elections resulted in a fragmented parliament with no clear majority.
