Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said today that Donald Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize - a few hours after the US president announced the agreement to end the war in the Gaza Strip and to exchange Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners, reported Agence France-Presse, quoted by BTA.

"Give the Nobel Peace Prize to Donald Trump, he deserves it!", the Israeli prime minister wrote on the social platform "Ex"

Earlier today, Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog praised his American counterpart for his role in negotiating the agreement between Israel and the Palestinian group "Hamas" to end the war in Gaza, DPA reported.

"There is no doubt that (Trump) deserves the Nobel Peace Prize," Herzog wrote on the social network "Ex" and described the agreement as "an opportunity to heal wounds and... a new horizon of hope for the region".

Last night, Trump announced that indirect talks in Egypt had led to a breakthrough. According to the first phase of the US peace plan, all hostages in Gaza will be released, and Israeli forces will withdraw to previously agreed positions. "Hamas" confirmed its participation in the agreement.

In a speech to the UN General Assembly recently, Trump said that since he took office for his second term, he has already stopped several wars and therefore should receive due recognition in the form of a Nobel Peace Prize. The Norwegian Nobel Committee will announce this year's winner of the award tomorrow.

US President Donald Trump is likely to visit Jerusalem on Sunday, Reuters reported, citing the Israeli presidency.

It was reported there today that Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog has canceled his plans for that day, given Trump's expected visit, despite the lack of an official statement from the White House.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, meanwhile, announced that his country supports the US president's plan to end military operations in the Gaza Strip.
