The United Kingdom has expanded its sanctions regime against Russia, reports „Reuters“, reports News.bg.
According to the information, the country has added 51 new specifications and 39 additional designations to the current restrictions against Moscow.
The new measures are aimed at 51 ships, part of the so-called Russian „shadow fleet“, as well as individuals and legal entities related to various economic sectors, including energy and defense.
The „shadow fleet“ is a network of older tankers that are believed to be used to circumvent international sanctions on Russian oil. This network is increasingly subject to restrictions by the United Kingdom, the United States and The European Union after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Among the companies included in the new sanctions list are Russian energy giants “Lukoil“ and “Rosneft“, as well as India's Nayara Energy, in which “Rosneft“ has a stake.
British Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves stressed that the government is taking targeted action against companies in India and China that continue to facilitate the export of Russian oil to global markets.
