The official results of the local vote in the Republic of North Macedonia have been announced

In 33 of the municipalities, there will be mayoral runoffs on November 2

In 43 municipalities, mayors were elected in the first round of the local elections in the Republic of North Macedonia, which were held on October 19, in 33 municipalities there will be a runoff, announced at an open meeting of the State Election Commission its chairman Boris Kondarko.

Of the municipalities in which mayors were elected in the first round, VMRO-DPMNE won in 33, the coalition of Albanian parties VLEN in 4, the National Alliance for Integration, led by DUI in 3 and the opposition SDSM also had three mayors elected in the first round.

In four municipalities, the elections will be repeated due to insufficient voters voting on Sunday. According to the electoral law in North Macedonia, if at least one third of the registered voters did not vote in the first round of local elections, the elections must be repeated no later than 60 days from the announcement of the final results by the State Election Commission. Voting will be repeated in the municipalities of Vrabčishte, Mavrovo and Rostuše, Tsentar Župa and Gevgelija, where 33.31 percent of those registered voted, a result very close to the required 33.33 percent.

The voter turnout in the first round of local elections in North Macedonia was 48.29 percent, which is the lowest result in local elections since the country declared independence.

The runoff for mayoral elections in the 33 municipalities will be on November 2.
