Several people were injured, some seriously, in attacks in the southern Gaza Strip today despite a ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Islamist movement "Hamas", reported DPA, quoted by BTA, citing Palestinian sources.

One person was seriously injured in Israeli shelling northwest of the city of Rafah, the nearby "Nasr" hospital reported.

The Palestinian Red Crescent said two people were injured in an Israeli airstrike on a vehicle near Khan Yunis. An Israeli military spokesman said he could not confirm such an incident.

The "Hamas" health authorities said 93 Palestinians had been killed since the truce with Israel came into effect on October 10, many of them a week ago.

The Israeli army said two of its soldiers had been killed in attacks in the southern Gaza Strip on Sunday, after Israel carried out its heaviest air strikes since the truce came into effect. Hospital sources said 44 Palestinians had been killed.

The situation has since calmed down, but there have been isolated attacks, DPA reported.

The Israeli army said it had opened fire on people who approached soldiers beyond the so-called yellow line, behind which the military withdrew as part of the ceasefire agreement.
