Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that he could end the war in Ukraine in a day. According to the British, however, the US president is more of an obstacle to lasting peace, writes “Politico“, reports News.bg.

A new survey by More in Common shows that 47% of British voters consider Trump an obstacle to efforts to stop the fighting, while only 21% believe that he is making a positive contribution. Just over a fifth (21%) believe Trump is neither helping nor hindering, while 11% have no opinion.

According to 75% of respondents, it is important for the UK to uphold Ukraine's sovereignty, with just 8% disagreeing.

The poll, conducted among 2,062 Britons between November 22 and 24, coincides with ongoing efforts by US and Ukrainian officials to reach a peace deal in Geneva, nearly four years after the start of the Russian invasion.

US and Russian officials are meeting in Abu Dhabi today, just hours after six people were killed in Russian strikes in Kiev.

Later this afternoon, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will co-host a telephone meeting of the "coalition of the willing" - a group of countries supporting Ukraine. Starmer had previously said that "there is still work to be done" before a deal could be finalised.

The British public continues to consistently support the Ukrainian cause - a position that enjoys broad cross-party support in Westminster. Nigel Farage, a Trump ally and leader of the Reform UK party, is among the few who have expressed a more sceptical view of aid to Kiev.

“One of the rare constants in public sentiment since the Russian invasion has been unwavering support for Ukraine and the belief that its future is important not just for the country itself but also for the UK“, said Luke Trill, executive director of More in Common.

“While Zelensky is under pressure to accept a peace plan, the British continue to say that concessions to Russian conditions are unacceptable and are urging their leaders to help broker a better deal.“
