The administration of US President Donald Trump is seeking people in the Cuban government to overthrow the government in Havana by the end of 2026, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing informed sources.

„Encouraged by the ouster of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro by the United States, the Trump administration is seeking individuals close to the Cuban government who could help overthrow the communist regime by the end of the year, sources familiar with the situation said,“, the article said.

In early January, the State Department declared the Western Hemisphere an area of interest for Washington. President Donald Trump previously called for adherence to the Monroe Doctrine, which declares the American continent a zone closed to intervention by other powers.

Following the military operation in Venezuela, the US leader issued threats against Cuba. He also threatened that Havana would no longer be able to receive oil from the South American country in compensation for its security services.
