The idea of sending European troops to Ukraine is “dead”, said Russian Ambassador to London Andrey Kelin in an interview with the British Channel 4 News.

The diplomat does not believe that Ukraine and NATO countries will be able to reach an agreement on sending troops after the end of hostilities.

“This idea is dead. We need an agreement and I do not believe that this agreement will include the idea of deploying troops on Ukrainian territory immediately after the ceasefire“, Kelin said.

The ambassador said that there are “positive and negative“ security guarantees. According to him, many agreements that end military conflicts do not involve the sending of troops, but rather political and legal guarantees.

„And the best option would be good relations between the United States and Russia, between European countries and Russia, including London. This means establishing normal political relations, respect for each other, respect for each other's interests and respect for each other's guarantees," Kelin explained.

Denmark has tightened control over tankers carrying Russian oil when transiting through the straits and while receiving service at anchor, Russian Ambassador to Copenhagen Vladimir Barbin told RIA Novosti.

„Denmark has tightened control over tankers carrying Russian oil when transiting through the Baltic Strait and receiving service while at anchor,“ the diplomat said.

He added that Denmark prioritizes collective action at the EU or NATO level to counter Russian cargo shipments in the Baltic Sea.

NATO countries have deployed the „Baltic Sentinel“ mission in the Baltic Sea in January 2025. As Barbin specified, Denmark has provided two frigates, two F-16 fighter jets, a patrol aircraft and a detachment of combat swimmers to monitor and maintain a presence in Danish waters and straits, as well as in the western part of the Baltic Sea.
