A tropical storm caused flooding and landslides in the southern Philippines, killing at least eight people and forcing more than 28,000 people to flee their homes, the Associated Press reported, quoted by dariknews.bg.
Residents of two flooded villages were stranded in their homes.
The storm weakened to a tropical depression on Monday. Winds were maintaining a speed of 55 km/h, reaching 75 km/h at times, the Philippines' meteorological agency reported.
About 20 typhoons and storms pass over the archipelago every year. In addition, the country is often shaken by earthquakes and has more than a dozen volcanoes on its territory, notes AH.
