Russia intends to deepen its relations with both Armenia and Azerbaijan, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, quoted by "Reuters", reports News.bg.

The statement was made after the visit of US Vice President J.D. Vance to the two South Caucasian countries. During the visit, the United States and Azerbaijan signed a strategic partnership, and Vance concluded a nuclear agreement with Armenia, which operates an aging nuclear power plant and is seeking to commission a new one.

Peskov stressed that Azerbaijan and Armenia are sovereign states with the right to conduct their own foreign policies and that Russia maintains deep and mutually beneficial relations with them.

"We have a wide range of bilateral relations with Baku and Yerevan, covering all possible areas - trade, economy, investment, cultural ties, etc. We intend to develop them in a way that will benefit both us and our partners," the Kremlin spokesman said.

He added that Russia is well-positioned to participate in a tender for any new nuclear power plant in Armenia.

"As the most advanced country in the world in this area, Russia is capable of withstanding the highest international competition," Peskov assured. "If competition is required by partners, Russia can provide better quality for many years to come at a lower price."
