Europe has lost trust in the United States, so at the Munich Security Conference, Washington is trying to reduce tensions with European countries, The New York Times writes.

“Europe's faith in the United States' commitment to common values, European security and even territorial integrity has already been undermined, and after Davos, many European leaders have lost hope of returning to their previous transatlantic relationship“, the article notes.

According to the publication, at the conference, which opened on February 13 in Munich, “the United States is still making efforts to de-escalate“, American officials are guided by “pragmatic realism“ and “no offense“ directed at Europe.

“Nevertheless, there are few indications of a real change in American policy“, the publication concludes, emphasizing that “Europeans remain skeptical and wary“ of the United States.
