US Vice President J.D. Vance reiterated the position that the US is seeking to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons after the new round of negotiations that took place in Geneva, DPA reported.

President Donald Trump "has many options and a number of tools" to ensure that the Islamic Republic does not have weapons of mass destruction, Vance said in an interview with "Fox News". The US vice president accused Tehran of also showing interest in acquiring nuclear weapons and warned that this too would be prevented.

Iran denies allegations that it is secretly trying to develop nuclear weapons and says it has the right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

Vance made the remarks hours after talks between Washington and Tehran in Geneva. The first round of talks to reduce tensions between the two countries took place earlier this month in the Omani capital Muscat.

Tensions between the US and the Islamic Republic have escalated since Trump said in January that an "armada" of warships was heading towards Iran. In recent weeks, US warships have been deployed to the region.

Mongolian Foreign Minister Battsetseg Batmunkhin met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio during his visit to the US, the Mongolian news agency MONTSAME reported.

During the conversation, the two diplomats reaffirmed the strategic partnership between Mongolia and the US and expressed their intention to deepen bilateral political trust.

They expressed their commitment to increasing the frequency of mutual high-level visits, strengthening ties between the peoples of the two countries, expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in the sectors of trade, economy, mining, energy, communications and artificial intelligence.
