The Western media covered the swearing-in of the new caretaker government in our country. World news agencies such as the Associated Press, Reuters, ABC News emphasized that the new caretaker cabinet, represented by Andrey Gyurov, has clearly stated the pro-Western orientation of the small Balkan country. The new Prime Minister of Bulgaria confirmed on Thursday that his country's pro-Western orientation is a "core value" and a strategic commitment as it prepares for the elections in April.
In a speech to the National Assembly after he and his ministers were sworn in, Andrey Gyurov said that Bulgaria will support efforts to achieve a lasting and just peace in Ukraine. He said the government would work closely with its allies in the European Union and NATO.
"Bulgaria belongs to democratic countries and will defend this position by being predictable, maintaining economic stability and defending the democratic order," Gyurov said.
The 50-year-old economist Gyurov has been deputy governor of the Bulgarian Central Bank since 2023. He was also an MP and parliamentary leader of the "Continuing Change" party in parliament.
His appointment came after the previous ruling coalition, led by the centrist GERB party, resigned in late 2025 following nationwide protests sparked by public discontent.
The collapse helped pave the way for new elections – the eighth since April 2021 – which analysts say could increase the number of seats held by nationalist and pro-Russian groups.
The new interim (official) prime minister will be supported by a cabinet of experts in his main tasks of ensuring fair and transparent elections and restoring public trust in institutions.
Gyurov called on Bulgarians to go to the polls on April 19 and "not to allow their vote to be turned into an instrument serving foreign interests".
