The European Union is betting on an escalation of the conflict in Ukraine in the absence of progress on other fronts, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told RIA Novosti.
According to the diplomat, the European Commission is undermining all efforts to find a peaceful resolution to the situation and is doing everything possible to keep the Kiev regime afloat.
This was also proven by attempts to provide a loan to Ukraine, bypassing Hungary and Slovakia.
On Wednesday, Politico reported that the European Union will provide Kiev with funds in the form of bilateral loans that do not require approval from Budapest and Bratislava, which are unhappy with Ukraine's obstruction of oil supplies.
Kiev has stopped pumping fuel on the Druzhba pipeline at the end of January. Budapest, in turn, stopped diesel supplies to Ukraine on February 18, and on February 20 blocked an EU loan from the country in the amount of 90 billion euros until oil supplies from Russia resume.
According to Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, this was done in response to blackmail from Kiev, which for political reasons is not resuming the transit, trying to provoke an energy crisis in the country and influence the elections in April.
