Iran has announced a new wave of missile strikes against Israel in response to the death of Ali Larijani, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Press TV reported.
„The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announces the 61st wave of missile strikes against Israel in response to the martyrdom of Iranian leader Larijani“, the statement said.
Earlier Wednesday evening in Tel Aviv a series of explosions were reported. Authorities said two people were killed in an Iranian missile strike. According to state-run Kan TV, a train station in central Tel Aviv was severely damaged.
Larijani was responsible for negotiations on key national security issues, including Iran's nuclear program. The President of the Islamic Republic, Massoud Pezeshkian, has vowed harsh revenge for his death.
The US Embassy in Jerusalem has released a cable quoting Israel's assessment that Iran is ready to “fight to the end“, despite the assassination of its Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and the ongoing attacks on its territory, the Washington Post reported, citing the document.
As the publication writes, the resilience of the Iranian government is one of many factors that the Trump administration appears to have underestimated in this conflict.
“The cable contains Israel's assessment that Iran is not has “cracked“ and is ready to “fight to the end”, the article states.
According to him, Israel expected the assassination of Khamenei in February to cause chaos in the Iranian leadership, but in recent days the stability of power in the Islamic Republic has become apparent thanks to the ability to launch ballistic missiles “wherever they want”.
