Negotiations with Iran to end hostilities are "going very well", US President Donald Trump said in a telephone interview with Agence France-Presse, BTA reported.

Earlier, Trump announced on his social network "Truth Social" that the US and Iran are having "very good and productive talks". "Everything is going very well", Trump told AFP.

In his message on social networks, Trump specified that the talks with Iran will "continue this week". He also announced that the United States would postpone possible strikes on Iranian power plants or other energy infrastructure for five days.

Before leaving Florida for Memphis, Tennessee, the US president told reporters that the United States and Iran had reached "agreement on important points".

He also said he wanted Iran to give up its stockpile of enriched uranium.

Iran denied on Tuesday claims by US President Donald Trump that the two countries had "productive" negotiations to end the war in the Middle East, DPA reported, BTA writes.

Tehran has no contact with Trump, even through intermediaries, reported the Iranian state agencies Fars and Tasnim, which are close to the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Just minutes before this information, Trump announced on his social network "Truth Social" that he was postponing military strikes on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for five days after "productive talks" with Iran, DPA noted, adding that the US head of state thus extended the term of his previous ultimatum.

Trump threatened on Saturday to attack Iranian power plants if Iran's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz was not lifted within 48 hours.

In response to this statement, Tehran threatened to completely close the strait and said it would retaliate against energy facilities and seawater desalination systems in Gulf countries that maintain relations with the US if Iranian energy infrastructure was attacked.

"The US and Iran have had very good and productive talks over the past two days regarding a final and comprehensive resolution to our military actions in the Middle East," Trump wrote on "Truth Social" today.

Iran's Fars news agency quoted an anonymous source in Iran's state leadership as saying that Trump backed down after Tehran threatened to attack all power plants in West Asia.

Tasnim reported that Trump was advised "by pressure from financial markets" and added that Iran would continue to defend itself "as long as the necessary deterrence is in place."
