The Iranian leadership believes that the US offer to hold talks in Islamabad may be a ruse, Axios reported, citing its sources.

Iranian officials told mediators from Pakistan, Egypt and Turkey that the deployment of US troops in the Middle East “has increased their wariness that the offer for peace talks may be a ruse“.

Axios reports that Iranian officials noted that they “do not want to be fooled again“, because the attacks on Iran in June last year and on February 28 this year occurred in the midst of the negotiation process process.

The portal notes that the US is considering the 15-point plan to end the conflict presented to Iran as a basis for negotiations. According to Axios, US administration officials hope to determine whether Tehran is willing to make concessions that it was unwilling to make during previous negotiations.

A White House source told the publication that the US is still considering moving to the ground phase of the operation against Iran, but a final decision has not yet been made.

As reported by the N12 television channel, citing an Israeli official, a meeting between US and Iranian representatives may take place later this week in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Earlier, The New York Times reported, citing sources, that the US has sent the Iranian authorities a 15-point plan to end the conflict in the Middle East.

According to the newspaper, the plan is aimed at the Islamic Republic's missile and nuclear programs. The document also addresses freedom of navigation.
