Unclear strategy: Trump seeks a way out of the conflict with Iran

Washington maneuvers between military escalation and diplomatic pressure

US President Donald Trump seems increasingly focused on finding a solution to the conflict with Iran, but his strategy remains unclear, notes a BBC analysis, reports News.bg.

The conflicting signals from Washington show that the administration has not yet chosen a definitive approach - whether to increase military pressure to quickly end the conflict, or to insist on a diplomatic agreement with Tehran.

Within a short period of time, the US simultaneously ordered the dispatch of ground forces to the region and offered Iran a new 15-point peace plan. However, Tehran rejected the proposal, which calls into question the real state of diplomatic efforts.

The White House claims that it holds the initiative, but Iran's refusal shows that control over the development of the conflict is limited. According to former US officials and US allies, there is growing concern within the administration that there is no clear plan for the next steps.

The key issues remain the security of the Strait of Hormuz, through which about a fifth of the world's oil and gas exports pass.

Reports on the content of the proposed plan indicate that it includes conditions such as Iran's abandonment of its nuclear program, restrictions on ballistic missiles and the restoration of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. However, Iran remains skeptical of such initiatives and denies negotiating with the United States.

Analysts point out that the simultaneous application of military and diplomatic pressure creates a sense of a lack of a clearly formulated strategy, which further complicates the situation.
