Angry Iraqi protesters have torn down the Kuwaiti flag from the country's consulate in the Iraqi city of Basra and attacked the diplomatic mission after a rocket attack from inside Kuwait in Iraq killed at least three Iraqis and wounded five others.

Protesters blamed Kuwait for the missile strike on a house in Khor al-Zubair, near Basra.
Dozens of people, identified by some sources as supporters of pro-Iranian militias, stormed the consulate compound.

Protesters took down the Kuwaiti flag and raised the Iraqi flag in its place.
Iraqi police used tear gas to disperse the crowd and take control of the building.

Kuwait's Foreign Ministry condemned the "invasion and vandalism", calling it a serious violation of diplomatic norms. The country denied that its territory was used for attacks on Iraq and said Baghdad bears full responsibility for protecting diplomatic missions.

Local authorities called for a joint investigation to determine the origin of the missile and prevent further violence.
