Russian President Vladimir Putin has lost his Trojan horse in the European Union with Viktor Orban's defeat in the Hungarian parliamentary elections, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said today, as quoted by Agence France-Presse.
Barrot called on the leader of the political force that won the Hungarian elections, Peter Magyar, who is expected to become prime minister, to lift Hungary's veto on a European aid package for Ukraine.
"This is a loss for Viktor Orban, it is also a loss for some of his supporters in the reactionary international, first of all, Vladimir Putin, who is losing his Trojan horse in the European Union," Barrot told France Internationale radio.
"What we expect" by Peter Magyar, "is to do what he said, to restore the pillars of the rule of law that Viktor Orbán pushed, to lead Hungary back to its place in the family of European nations, to lift some unjustified vetoes", the French minister pointed out.
"This is particularly about our support for Ukraine. The policy that Orbán pursued created obstacles that we are glad will be removed," said Barrot, referring to the frequent vetoes that Orbán imposed on EU initiatives to provide assistance to Ukraine.
