Ukraine asks NATO for more air defense systems

Today, the NATO-Ukraine Council is holding an extraordinary meeting in Brussels in response to Russian missile attacks on the attacked country's critical infrastructure, Ukrinform reported. Ukraine's Defense Minister Umerov called on NATO member states to provide additional air defense systems, BTA reported.

"On March 28, 2024, an emergency meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council was convened at the initiative of Ukraine in response to Russia's attacks on critical infrastructure,'' Ukraine's mission to NATO said in a statement. "Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov informed the allies about the consequences of the Russian attacks, as well as about the retaliatory measures taken by Ukraine. Minister Umerov called on NATO member countries to provide additional air defense systems and missiles for the protection of Ukrainian cities and citizens," the text also reads.

Over the past few days, Russia has carried out massive missile strikes against Ukrainian cities, including Kiev, Kharkiv, Odesa, Sumy and Zaporozhye.
