The United States urged the countries of the region to exert pressure on Iran not to interfere in the war in Sudan, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.

Washington is not holding direct talks with the countries accused of fueling the conflict in Sudan and is encouraging regional countries to pressure Iran not to get involved in the war in the African country, US Permanent Representative to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield said.

Reuters reported on Wednesday that Iranian-made drones were helping the army turn the tide in the conflict, halting the advance of the paramilitary Rapid Support Force and retaking territory around Sudan's capital. Reuters cited local military officials, six Iranian sources, diplomats and regional officials. They all wished to remain anonymous. The sources said Sudan's military had bought Iranian drones in recent months.

The war in Sudan has condemned millions of people to starvation and created the world's second largest refugee and displaced people crisis. The war also triggered a wave of ethnic killings and sexual violence in Darfur.

According to UN experts, the Rapid Support Force is supported by neighboring African countries, including Chad, Libya, and South Sudan. Experts say claims of material support for the force coming from the United Arab Emirates are credible. The UAE says its role in Sudan is focused on humanitarian support and calls for de-escalation.

Thomas-Greenfield criticized the world's silence on the conflict in Sudan at a time when smallpox and cholera are spreading in that country and famine is looming. She stated that the US will soon significantly increase its financial contribution to aid Sudan.

April 15 marks one year since the war in Sudan. Thousands of people died in it, and more than 8.5 million people were driven from their homes. The infrastructure of the country was destroyed.

On Monday in Paris, there will be an international conference on Sudan and neighboring countries. It is jointly organized by France, Germany and the EU and aims to raise funds to deal with the Sudanese crisis.
