The situation on the front line in Ukraine has “deteriorated significantly” in the last week amid the renewed Russian offensive following the re-election of Vladimir Putin, said the Commander-in-Chief of the ZSU Oleksandr Sirsky, quoted by The Telegraph.

Syrsky, who replaced Zaluzhny in the post just a few weeks ago, said the Russians had superiority in weapons and manpower.

Syrsky spoke of a “significant strengthening of the enemy offensive after the presidential elections in Russia” last month and added that decisions are being made in Kiev “to strengthen the most problematic defense zones with radio-electronic warfare and air defense”. “The situation on the eastern front has deteriorated significantly in recent days,” said General Sirski.

Ukraine said it was “difficult and tense” around the eastern city of Chasov Yar, as the area was under “constant fire”. Chasov Yar is near Bakhmut, which was leveled by months of artillery fire before being captured by Moscow last May.

„The enemy is actively attacking our positions in the Liman and Bakhmut directions with assault groups supported by armored vehicles”, said the Commander-in-Chief of the ZSU, according to whom the enemy is achieving “tactical successes”. Russia is suffering significant losses, he said, but continues to try to break through Ukrainian defenses. The dry weather makes it easier for the Russian troops, because it is easier for tanks and other combat equipment to move.

According to Sirsky, Ukraine can defeat Russia by achieving technical superiority. “The second serious problem is to improve the quality of training of military personnel, especially infantry units, so that they can make the most of all the possibilities of military equipment and Western weapons,”, the Ukrainian general added.
