Hundreds of Greek workers marched in central Athens today demanding that wages be raised to the average in Europe and in a sign of protest against the war in Gaza, reported the Greek newspaper "Kathimerini", quoted by BTA.
Ships remained docked at Greek ports and buses and metro services in the capital were suspended as public transport workers joined a 24-hour strike called by the General Confederation of Labor (GCEE) for Labor Day.

Many of the protesters who gathered in a peaceful protest outside the Greek parliament building waved Palestinian flags and released balloons into the sky in solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza.
„It is our duty not to forget this genocide on Labor Day”, said Marianna Tsagari, who participated in the protest.
Israel categorically denies accusations that the offensive in Gaza, which aims to destroy the Palestinian militant group “Hamas” after its attack in southern Israel, constitutes genocide, recalls “Kathimerini”.
With the recovery of public finances, the salaries of civil servants in Greece rose this year for the first time in 14 years. The Greek conservative government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who was re-elected last June, unveiled a plan this week for performance bonuses that could reach 15 percent of annual salary from 2025.
Government officials condemned the “handouts” and said they were penniless and failing to make up for their cumulative 40 percent decline in wages over the decade of crisis while food and housing costs continued to rise.
