A Russian attack in Ukraine has killed at least two people and injured six people in the Ukrainian city of Khyrnik, just over 12 km from the area with the greatest tension on the front line, a local official said, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

Russian troops used a rocket launcher for salvo fire, regional governor Vadim Filashkin said in Telegram. The photos he shared with the post show private homes destroyed by fires and damaged by blast waves.

Hirnik is located only about 12-15 km from the zone of active hostilities near the Ukrainian city of Mariinka in the Donetsk region, where Russian troops have intensified their advance.

The commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army Oleksandr Sirsky recently described the situation in the Mariyinka region as one of the most difficult.

Ukrainian troops, outnumbered and outgunned, are desperate for an influx of fresh ammunition and weapons that has been delayed for months by political wrangling in the US Congress.

Although some of the weapons are already arriving, President Volodymyr Zelensky called for a significant acceleration of deliveries, saying that the entire situation on the battlefield directly depends on it.
