Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky fired the head of the department responsible for his personal security after two of his employees were detained this week for an alleged plot to assassinate him, AFP reported, quoted by dariknews.bg.

Zelensky published a decree for the "release of Serhii Leonidovich Rud from the post of head of the Department of State Protection of Ukraine".

It did not state the reason for Rudd's removal, nor his replacement for the all-important post.

The news comes amid reports that the Ukrainian parliament has fired two ministers and President Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed a new commander of the Special Operations Forces.

The Minister of Agriculture of Ukraine Mykola Solsky and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov have been relieved of their duties. Solsky was in the cabinet of Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmygal from 2022, while Kubrakov was in the government from 2021.

Ukraine's anti-corruption service announced in April that Solsky was involved in the illegal acquisition of state-owned land worth 291 million hryvnias (6.9 million euros). Days later, the Minister of Agriculture was arrested and subsequently released on bail of 75.7 million hryvnias. Solsky denied the allegations, but resigned the following day. During today's vote, the parliament accepted the resignation.

Kubrakov, responsible for the infrastructure and reconstruction of the war-torn country, was also fired by the legislature in the reorganization of power. "I am always ready for an open dialogue and a detailed report on the ministry's work in all areas for which I am responsible," Kubrakov wrote on Facebook, adding that neither Volodymyr Zelensky nor Prime Minister Shmigal discussed his removal with him.

In March, Zelensky announced that more personnel changes are coming. “We continue to restart our state institutions“, he said then.

Today, the head of state released by decree Colonel Serhiy Lupanchuk from the post of commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Ukrainian Army. Lupanchuk has been in office for the last nearly six months after his appointment on November 3, 2023.

Brigadier General Oleksandr Trepak was announced as the new commander of the forces by a separate decree. He has been the Deputy Commander of the Forces since 2020 and has served in the Ukrainian Army since April 2014.

In 2014, he guarded the Armored Weapons Supply Center in the city of Bakhmut and the small arms storage base in the village of Paraskovievka in the Donetsk region. Trepak was also the commander of the operation to protect the airport in Donetsk from August to October 2014

In 2015, Trepak was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine by the then President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko. He also received three "Bohdan Khmelnytsky" orders. for special merits in the defense of the state: in 2022 by Zelensky and twice in 2014 by Poroshenko.

Zelensky began reorganizing Ukraine's military command in February, firing Ukraine's Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Valery Zaluzhny. By decree of May 8, Zaluzhny was appointed ambassador of Ukraine to Great Britain. The decree stated that he was released “from military service for health reasons” and retains his “right to wear a military uniform“.

In April, more changes were announced in Ukraine's military command, with new appointments made to the country's southern, eastern and western operational commands.
