US urgently sells three HIMARS missile defense systems to Ukraine

The deal is worth $30 million and has been approved by the State Department

The US State Department has approved the emergency sale of three HIMARS missile defense systems to Ukraine for 30 million dollars, the Pentagon announced, quoted by RIA Novosti.

„The State Department has approved a possible emergency foreign military sale to the government of Ukraine of HIMARS systems and related logistics and program support elements, at an estimated cost of $30 million,” the department document said.

It is specified that the Ukrainian government has announced its intention to purchase three HIMARS systems, which will be financed by Germany in the interest of Kiev.

Russia believes that the supply of weapons to Ukraine hinders the peaceful settlement of the conflict and directly involves NATO countries in it. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any cargo containing weapons for Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia. According to him, the US and NATO are directly involved in the conflict, including not only by supplying weapons, but also by training personnel in Great Britain, Germany, Italy and other countries.
