The separatist parties lost their majority in the parliament of the Spanish region of Catalonia, BNR reported. This is indicated by the results of yesterday's elections, in which the Socialist Party won the most votes.

Predictions of a drop in support for the Catalan independence movement have been justified. For the first time in over 40 years (1980s), the separatist parties will not have a majority in the regional parliament.

The victory of the Socialist Party of Catalonia, which will have 42 deputies out of a total of 135, was expected. "Republican Left", third in the election, whose leader Pere Aragones said society had put his formation in opposition.

The leader of the second force - "Together for Catalonia" - the former regional prime minister Carles Puigdemont, who lives in exile after the failed attempt to separate Catalonia in 2017. His formation came second with 35 deputies.

In fourth and fifth place are the People's Party and the far-right Vox with significantly better results than the previous vote in 2021.

58% is the participation in the elections, in which more than 5 million and 700 thousand people had the right to vote.
