The Memoirs of former German Chancellor Angela Merkel "Freedom. Memoirs 1954 – 2021“ will be published at the end of November, its publisher announced, quoted by DPA, BTA writes.

Merkel, who headed the Christian Democratic Union, has weathered multiple crises during her tenure, including the 2015 influx of migrants into Europe and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The former chancellor co-wrote the book with her long-time political adviser Beate Baumann.

According to the publishing house "Kippenheuer and Vich“ the book will tell about Merkel's life in two German states – 35 years in communist East Germany and 35 years in united Germany.

Merkel, who was born in Hamburg in 1954 but soon after moved with her parents to East Germany, explained that she has been preoccupied with the question of freedom all her life – both in politics and in her personal life.

"Without democracy there is no freedom, no constitutional state, no protection of human rights,” Merkel said, adding that for her freedom means "not stopping learning, not standing still, but you can move forward even when you leave politics”.

The book will be published in thirty countries around the world, the publishing house announced.

Angela Merkel was at the head of the largest European economy in the period from 2005 to 2021. She was the country's first female chancellor, DPA recalls.
