The terrorist group “Islamic State“ claimed responsibility for Friday's attack on tourists in Bamyan province, central Afghanistan, in which three Spanish tourists were killed, Reuters reported, citing BTA.

The group claimed responsibility via a message on its Telegram channel.

According to the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in addition to the three dead Spaniards, there is also one wounded compatriot.

As the Taliban authorities reported yesterday, quoted by the Associated Press, in the attack several gunmen shot dead at least six people and wounded at least seven.

Bamian province is perhaps best known for the two huge Buddha statues carved out of rock between the 4th and 6th centuries, which the Taliban destroyed in early 2001 at the behest of Al Qaeda.
